The barqne Kentiah lass was being towed this morning by the b.s. Man» from Te Aro Bay to the Railway Wharf when, in consequence of the strong north-westerly wind prevailing, it became necessary to drop anchor to the north of Oriental Bay. During the day the vessel has drifted towardß Thomas' Point, where she now lies in what appears from the city < alarming proximity to the lee shore. She Ib, however, afloat, and her anohora are in excellent holding ground, so that no danger whatever, is apprehended. A special meeting of the Harbour Board was bold this afternoon to considor whether any contribution should be made towards the cost of the new Poßt Offico clock. There were preßent— Meaars. J. Duthie chairman;, E. Pearoe, J. Petheriek, W. Booth, D. Speedy, and Captain Roae. Tho Chairman reviewed the hiatory of the movement towarda the provision of a new clock, stating that ho had informed the City Council that ho believed the Board would contribute one-half the coat of purohaae. Even if tho pnblio did not subscribe to the fund at all, he thought he was correct in saying that tho cost would Dot exceed .£650. He thorofore moved, "That this Board agrees to contribute towarda the cost of the Poat Office clock an equal amount to that provided by the City Counoil, it being understood that the amount shall not exceed .£325." Measrs. Wheeler and Heaton, who were absent, had intimated their approval of the proposal. Meßßrs. Pearce and Petheriok thought some definite agreement should be made with the Government as to the maintenance of the clock. Mr. Pearce said that if the Government would not undertake the maintenance the two bodies would probably be willing to do so. Captain Rose thought that the local bodies should bear the whole cost, without asking the publio for subscriptions. On the motion of Mr. Petheriek, a committee, consisting of the Chairman, Mr. Pearce, Captain Rose, and tho mover, was appointed to act in conjunction with the committee of the City Council. This conoluded the business. The steamer Grafton, from the South, arrived in harbour at 4 p.m. to-day. Wellington oarsmen will learn with regret that Mr. A. S. Bibb haß found it impossible to continue in the position of secretary of the New Zealand Amateur Rowing Association, and will tender his resignation at the annual meeting this evening. During the time he has filled the office he has done much to advance the interests of the Association, and it is to be hoped that his successor will prove as useful an officer.
