A letter was received from the Chairman of the Wairarapa North County Council relative to the alleged injustice inflicted npon the country districts by uniting them with the large centres of population >o far as tho distribution of charitable aid under tho Hospital and Charitable Aid Act, 1885, was concerned. It was decided by tho Council to afford every assistance in their power to the Wairarapa North County Council in the direction indicated. Mrs.M'Guirk wroto asking tho Counoil to permit her to drive her express waggon through the Kaiwarra toll-gate free of charge. Mrs. M'Guirk founded her application on the fact that sho had a large family of children, and had been in the habit of driving through the gato for a number of years past. The Counoil instructed the clerk to inform Mrs. M'Guirk that they had no power to grant her request. Mr. J. Wallace, the Secretary of the Wellington and Mauawatu Railway Company, waited upon the Counoil for the purpose of preferring a request that tho county road should be continued from a point about two miles the other side of Paikakariki through the land belonging to the railway company, and thence to Waikanae. It was decided that the whole of foe mojnbors of the Counoil Bhonld proceed over tho proposed line of road on Monday next. Mr. Wallace stated that the road could be easily constructed, and would be far better than if it were made nearer the beach, whioh would entail greater cost owing to tho swampy nature of the soil. Accounts affecting tho general fund amounting to 4J481 17s 9d wore passed for payment, as also was tho sum of £M 12s Cd, the lattermentioned amount being for charitable aid purposes. This concluded the business.
