I * 1 The regular meeting of this Board waß held t lost night. Present— Commissioners W. Kirk a (Chairman), Jackson, A. Collett, Fraser, V Kelly, and J. Curtis. J. ) Hoskins, Town Clerk of Christchurch, asking . the co-operation of the Board in scouring the > abolition of tho totalisator was read. Mr. • W. P. James' aeoonnt was referred to the. i Licensing Committee for their opinion as to ' whether the claim for travelling expenses ) (jGI Is) was reasonable or not. Mr. Mason's » request to have gorae removed was acceded ; to. A letter from the Gear Company asking > permission to carry on the business of foll1 mongoring in the township was received, and , it was resolved to grant the desired per» i mission. Mr. Croft's request to have the . sand on the Esplanade covered with > blinding was referred to the Works ; Committee, with power to do what ; was necessary. Witk reference to Mrs. Eddy's application for the removal of gorso, it was resolved to authorise the i Works Committee to do the work at tho ■ expenso of Mr. Tringham, unless it was done ' by him within one week froti date. The i request of Messrs. Grant and Mothes was i left over until tho election of the Borough [ Council. It was reported that no answer • had been received from the Inspector of Police to the Board's request that the local constable be allowed to sue defaulters under ' the Dog Registration Act. The Clerk was ' authorised to interview the Inspootor on the 1 matter. A letter was read from Messrs. Kirk and Atkinson, stating that the notice re taking a portion of Mr. Peter Smith's land had been gazetted, and recommending ' the settlement of the olaim by valuation. Mr. E. Battersby asked permission to connect drains on his property with the -Britannia-street drain, and the request was granted on the usual conditions. A letter from Mr. S. Curtis, offering a portion of hie land fronting Jackson-street for the sum of 445, to allow of the straightening of the street, was reoeived. It waa resolved to move the fence on Mr. P. Smith's property back to the proper boundary, and it was also decided to allow his claim to be settled by the Compensation Court. Mr. S. Curtis' offer to sell 100 feet frontago to Jackson-street with a depth of 7 feot was considered. Mr. J. Curtis proposed that the offer be accepted. The Chairman and other members thought the offer a reasonable one. Commissioner Collett proposed leaving tho question for the consideration of the incoming Counoil, and that the offer be a recommendation to them. The Chairman seconded thiß motion, which was carried. The Chairman thought it probable that that would be their last meeting, as the proclamation forming the district a borough would be issued bof ore the date for their next regular meeting. It was deoided to recommend the present clerk of the Town Board for tho position of clerk to the new borough. Mr. F. Greville offered for the consideration of the Board a proposal (for recommendation to the incoming Jounoil) that the Council lease from him, for six years, a portion of section 6, for use as a reoreation ground for the borough. The Chairman proposed, and Commissioner Kelly seconded, that the offer be recommended for the consideration of the incoming Counoil, and the motion was o*rried unanimously. It was resolved to oiroulate the petition for the abolition of the jotalisator throughout the district, and to forward it to the member for the district. Accounts for £91 Is lid were passed for payment, and the meeting then terminated.
