After the annual meeting of the Town .Lands Trust last evening, a pnblio meeting was held to consider the new Town tanda Management Act, introduced and read a first time last session. There was a warm discussion, the Bill in its present shape being vigorously denounoed by' < Messrs. Renal, Hog?, Caselberg, andPayton. It was decided to withdraw the word "primary" from the olanse specifying the purposes for which the funds could be applied, tlie former Act providing for general eduoation, while the new Act specified " primary education." Subsequently Mr. Renall oondemned the Trustees for introducing an Act wbi'oh altered the foundations of the Trust without consulting the people, and having pointed out several olanses which he considered objectionable, moved that the Trustees and Mr. Beetham', M.H.E., be requested to withdraw, the Bill. Mr. Hogg, 1 in seconding the motion, pointed out that the new Bill, by allowing trustees to traffic in land and mortgages, would enable unBorupuloua men U) manipulate the Trust funds for their on a benefit. An amendment that the consideration of the new Aot be referred to a committee to confer with the Trustees and Mr. Beetham, was lost, only seven voting for it.
