Racecourse Gaming.
SEVERE PUNISHMENT OF SPIELERS. |Bt Telegraph. I [UNITED PREBB ASSOCIATION.) Auckland, 30th Decembor. The hearing of the cases against eight " spielers," arrested at Ellerslie Racecourse on Monday, was concluded at the Police Court to-day. Mr. Baddoley, the Resident Magistrate, imposed the following sentencea :— John Grappel, John Hart, Fred. Holmes, Charles Shearman, and Allan Cockburn, each fined £30 or to undergo two months' imprisonment; Albert Chatband, £50, or three months' imprisonment. Similar charges of unlawful gaming against M'Canally and S. Smith were dismissed.
