Tragic Occurrence at Rakaia.
♦ - ■ DESPERATE ACT OF A MOTHEB. (Bt Tbi.kgbaph.l | united fbeBb association.] Orbistohueoh, 29th December. A ehooking tragedy ooourred at Bakaia, namely, the murder of a boy by his mother, and the attempted suicide of the woman. From the particulars of the affair which hare been gathered, it appoars that the woman, whose name is supposed to bo Dalpiel, tied her child to her, and then jumped into the Bakaia River. When discovered, the boy wai dead, but tho mother was alive. She was put in the oare of Dr. Withers, and is progressing towardsrecovery. From her dreis she haB the appearanoo of being a widow, and the statement as to her name \» only a rumour. It is said that her husband died eomo months ago.
