A NEW AUSTRALIAN YACHT,

The success of tho New Zealand built yacht Waitangi against the leading yachts in Australia in the recent Intercolonial Yacht Races sailed at Sydney, induced her owner, Mr. A. G. Milson (says .an exchange), to think of getting a yacht built which would be strictly representative of that port. A few weeks ago he called for tenders, and after consideration accepted that of the well-known ship and yacht builder, Mr. George Ellis, of Babnain. A start was immediately made by Mr. Ellis, and recently ho successfully cast her lead keol, which is the heaviest lead casting ever made in the colonies. The weight of the koel is 30 tons, and its dimensions are— length, 26ft by 2ft Gin deep, and 3ft 6in broad. The dimensions of Mr. Milson's new yacht are as follows:— Overall 71ft, depth of hold Oft, beam 12ft 9in, draught of water Oft, and she will measure 40 tons. Hor frames aro to be alternately Batural hardwood and bent timber, the natural framo boing 3in aided.

Her planking is to bo ljin, the bottom to be of Oregon and tho top sides of kauri. Her dock planking is to be of narrow yellow pine, 2in thick. Her mast, which is now ready, is 32ft from deck to hounds ; the topmast 35ft, boom 52ft, gaff 35ft, and bowsprit 22tt outboard. Her sails are to be by Lapthorne, the famous English sailmakers. The yacht is to be ready for launching on or before 14th November next, and the work of fitting her out is to be completed in time to permit of her trial trip on Ist December. She is to be rigged as a cutter for the 1887-8 racing season, and afterwards eho will be rigged as a yawl for pleasure sailing
