The Nile valley ib flooded to such an extent that a famine is feared. During the discussion on the Naval Estimates, Mr. Shaw-Lefevre unsuccessfully attacked the vote for the Bronnan torpedo. The workmen on the Sues Canal are agitating for eight hours a day and a whole holiday on Saturday. A plebiscite of the workmen will bo taken. A special onaotment will be necessary, and the agitation at present is deprecated. > The barque Manhegan, owned by J. C. Ellis, of Newoastle, New South Wales, has been totally wrecked on the African coast. The crew were saved. 11th September. The Crofters are anxiously enquiring if facilities will be granted for settlement on Flinders Island. ' The Queen refused to lay the foundation stone of Aberdeen Hospital, being, it is said, annoyed that the funds wero not bestowed on the Imperial Institute The Launoeston Harbour Board's tug Lybia on her trial trip attained a speed of over eleven knots. Tho Mount Morgan Extended Gold Mining Company is announced with a. capital of .£150,000. The New South Wales Colliery Company with a capital of .£IOO,OOO is registered.
