Alleged Embezzlement.

A young man named Alexander Bullock was oharged at the Magistrate's Court to-day, before Lieut,-Cdl. Butts and Mr. J. Collins, Justices, with the embezzlement of £1 10s Bd, the property of his employer, Henry Thomas Windust, contractor. Inspector Browne prosecuted, In reply to the charge accused said, "I received it to pay myself . I haven't got all I want now, and I'm sorry it wasn't bigger," The complainant deposed that Bullock was in his employment as a driver, at £1 per week and bis keep. His wages were paid, with the exoeptionof those for last week. He hod authority to collect Bums due for the oartage of coal, and witness knew that he had received £1 10s 8d from Mr. J. H. Williams on the 27th August, but on Saturday, when asked for the monoy, he stated that he had not received it. To accused—On Saturday week I owed you 13s, but I paid you during the week, when you wanted to drink. I now owe you only for last week's wages. Accused — " You are in my debt now, by right, tenpence ; that's just it. You've never paid me my wages in full all tha time I've been with you, and that's eight weeks this morning." Accused continued to abuse the complainant until called to order by the Clerk of the Court. In reply to the Bench, the complainant stated that he was not in the habit of borrowing money from Bullock, but he once borrowed hajf-a-crowo from him. James Herbert Williams proved the payment of the money, and Detective Campbell also gave evi.dence. Accused repeated his statement that complainant was still tenpence in his debt.. and added, "If I have to go to gaol for another man owing me money it's a caution. If I hadn't stnek to it I wouldn't have had my wages yet." The Chairman said the Bench had decided to dismiss the case, as they considered that there had been a very loose way of carrying on business between the accused and his employer, who apparently acknowledged haying borrowed money on ono Occasion. Still the accused Bbould not have appropriated money that belonged to another. He would now be discharged. Accused (to the complainant)— You'd bettor give me that tenpence. (Laughter.)
