Mr. Ballance said the return had been propared by the department, and he had not looked at it bofore it was laid upon tho table, and bad therefore no knowledge that the hon. gentleman's name was upon the return. After considerable discussion the motion was agreed to. Mr. Fitzherbert gave notice that on Thursday he will ask the Minister for Public Works whether he will take into consideration the feasibility of making alterations in the railway line between Upper Hutt and Feat hers ton, so as to avoid the present dangerous route over the Summit.
