The Volunteers.
The following appointments in the Volunteer service are gazetted : — Papawai (native) Rifle Volunteers, Greytown, Charles Joseph Jury to be Captain, Matene Te Ore to be Lieutenant, and Pita Mana to be Lieutenant ; Greytown Rifle Volunteers, Lieutenant Daniel Cameron to be Captain. Major Thomas Viret Shepherd is promoted to be Lieut.-Colonel, and Sergeant • Major John Falconer, Royal Engineers, to be Lieutenant in the New Zealand Militia. The First Battalion Wellington Rifle Volunteers has been re-constituted so as to consist of the Wellington City Bines, Wellington Guards, Wellington Rifles, Newtown Rifles, Te Aro Rifles, and Thorndon Kifles. The resignation has been accepted of Lieut. Edward Johnston, Palmerston North Rifles. The Kaiwarra Eifles will bold their fiist period of class firing to-morrow. Morning squad commencing at 5 a.m. and afternoon squad at 2 p.m.
