Faddy Dttnn, "William Noble, and Charlos Hinney, three of ibo men who, the police aeaort, hate /eoemlly oome from Sydney, and have the rdpntatlott of being sharpen, were fined £2 each at toe Polioo Court this morn ing for damaging property in a house of illfame. They were under the impression they had squared tho matter by paving the proprietress, but the polioe took the matter up. At the meeting of the United Charitable Board to-day two petitions (one from influential residents of Chrittoharoh, inolnding the Mayor and Chairman of the old Chantablo Aid Board and the other from 50 Lyttelton residents) wero presented, praying for a re-oonsideration of the Board's resolution to dismiss Mr. and Mrs. Bitohie, master and matron of the Orphanage. No reasons had formerly beon given for tho Board's aotion ; but to-day Mr. Nalder, Chairman of the Orphanage Committee, said that Mr. Bitohie had been insubordinate to such an extent that the Committee oould not work with him. Mr. Bitohie has nerer been hoard by the Board in explanation. It was dooided tbat Mr. Ritchie be furnished with a statement of the reasons for his dismissal, and it was understood that ho should be givou an opportunity for replying. Miss Georgie Smithson delivered a leotnre to-night on tho West Coast Bailway to an audience of upward of 2000 persons in the Tuam-Btreet Hall. The Mayor of Christohuroh presided. The leoture, whioh consisted of a reiteration of the arguments used in favour of tho construction of the line, was very well reooived, and a hearty vote of thanks passed to the leotnresa. Auckland, 22nd February. Mr. Cadman, M H. 8., met the Meroury Bay portion of his constituency on Saturday evening. The meeting was one of the largest evor held in the Bay. A Tote of thanks and confidence was unanimously given to Mr. Cadmao. Mr. Carter's store at Mangapai was bnrnod down. It was insured for .£250 in tho North British Company. A representative meeting of Boman Catholias was hold to arrange for a fitting reception of Cardinal Moran. Woodvilli, Thib Dat. The bridge aorosß the Manawatu at Knmeroa, erected at a oost of over J33000, was formally opened by Mrs. Smith, wife of Mr. Smith, M. H. 8 ., yesterday. The visitors were afterwards entertained at lnnoheon, and in the evening a successful concert and ball took plaoe. Mr. Carlson, of Danevirke, was the oontraotor. Wanganui, ThiB Day. The Education Board has passed a resolution asking the Government to advanoe .£lOOO of next year's building grant to enable them to meet the demand for new sohools in the outlying districts.
