The ordinary monthly meeting of the Board was held this morning at the offices of the Board. Present— Messrs. J. B. Blair (in the chair), H. Bunny, J. Yoang, Q. V. Shannon, Beethan, Buchanan, and Key. J. Paterson. Mr. Bunny presented a petition from oertain residents of Masterton asking that the sohool distriot might be divided into two districts. The matter was referred to the Masterton Sohool Committee. The Secretary mentioned that the Bank balance at the end of the month would amount to .£II,OOO. The question of railway fares for children at Taita attending the Exhibition was considered. Mr. Bunny B&id that tho offer of the Government to bring down children from Masterton was too high. He considered that the Government ought to give the ohildren attending schools, and also the teachers, free railway passes. The State passed Volunteers along the railways, and he thought that the same privilege should be afforded to the ohildren attending State schools. He proposed that a deputation, consisting of tho Chairman, Messrs. Young, Beetham, and the mover, Bhould wait upon tho Minister of Publio Works to urge that the concession of free railway fares to the sohool ohildren and the teachers in the Wairarapa district should be made. Mr. Young seconded the motion, whioh was carried. Mr. Joseph Blaokie, Chairman of the Horokiwi Valley Sohool Committee attended, and asked for a grant of £40 for the teacher of the school. The attendance as yet was only eight ohildren, and it would be a pity if the sohool could not be opened for want of a little aisistanoe. The Board recommended Mr. Blaokie to endeavour to get more ohildren to attend, and if this was accomplished there would be no difficulty in getting the money required for tho teaoher's salary. The new boundaries for the Carterton Sohool District were presented by Mr. Fairbrother, and were agreed to, the only opposition being that of the Clairville Committee The resignation of Miss Mary Robins, Carterton, was aooepted.
