THE HAPtDEN PATENT "STAR" HAND GEENADE, (Patented August 8, 1871, and August 14, 1883.) nnHE original, and only practical and reliJL able Fire Extinguishing Hand Grenade known ; when thrown upon or into fire, Carbonio Aoid Gas is developed ; its effect is instantaneous and complete in fire quenohing; no deluginpr of goods by water; no goods permanently spoiled; harmless to persons or olothing; has no explosive caps or fuses ; is always ready and powerful ; oannot get out of order; it is cheap and oonvenient ; a lady can use it easily, without fear or embarrassment ; there is no poisonous vapour, if it is broken accidentally. FIRE BXTINGUIBHER, The Gbeat Desidebatum. Indorsed by the Chiefs of Fire Departments, Fire Insurance Companies, and Business Houses of Amerioa. It is not claimed for these Fire Extinguishers that they can take the place ot a Fire Department, but simply to enable everybody to conquer incipient fires before a fire-engine could reach them, the first five minutes at a fire being worth more than as many hours afterwards. The many practical proofs received of actual, and what threatened to be severe fires, being got under oheok, and extinguished completely, by these Habden Stab Grenades, are sufficient guarantees of their merit, whilst their oheapness brings them within the reach of all property-holders. These Habdbn Stab Gbenades are now to be found in the Publio Institutions, Hotels, Stores, Warehouses, and Dwellinghonses of the United States Cities and Townships. They are to be seen in the passages of Drnry Lane, The Savoy, Globe, and other Theatres, South Kensington > Museums, International Inventions Exhibition, the Pnblio Buildings. Hotels, and Warehouses in London, and all throughout the United Kingdom. We herewith submit a few practical proofs as a sample :— Surrey County Lunatic Asylum, near Tooting, S.W., February 26, 1885. On Saturday, the 21st inst., some very successful experiments were mode here, demonstrating the complete efficiency of the Harden Star Hand Grenades in extinguishing fire. Without going into detail, I may add that the Committee of the Asylum, in whose presence the experiments took place, were so satisfied of the value of the invention, that they ordered fifteen dozen of the Grenades for distribution throughout the Asylum. J. Stbangk Biggs, M.D., Superintendent. Glenoester Oil Mill, February 24, 1883. To Mr. George Martin, Agent for the Harden Star Hand Grenade Co., Stroud. Dear Sir,— On February Ist our watohman discovered a fire at the back of onr boilers. When first he saw it the flames were about 6 feet high. He immediately used one of your Grenades, which checked the flames, but finding they were likely to break out again, he used another one, which completely put out the fire. The fire originated from some old bagging which had accumulated, and it is a very difficult matter to put that kind of fire out, as old bags in our place are always very oily.— Yours faithfully, Fosteb Bbos. (per John i). Lee). Leland Hotel, Chicago, February 1, 1884.^" I must say it was the most wonderful exhibit I have ever seen, as it seemed like magio. Send me one gross at your earliest oonvenienoe, with baskets, for my hotel, and oblige.— Yours, W. F. Leland. Grand Pacifio Hotel, Chicago, February 8, 1884. Chas. H. Royce, Seoretary : Dear Sir,— We are convinced of the merits of the Harden Hand Grenade Fire Extinguisher, and that they are one of the most effective fire extinguishers that we have ever Been. We have placed them through the Grand Pacific, and consider them a very valuable addition to our fire department. Tours truly, John B. Drake k Co. Hundreds of fires already extinguished by these Grenades and thousands of pounds saved. Acknowledged to be the best extinguicher of fires ever discovered.
