Football Gossip.

F. Dodson, late of tho Poneke Club, is now looated in Dunedin. He has joined tho Piratds in that city, f-hould the Wellington interprovinokl team be a forward short in their match with Otago, he would fill the gap very creditably. The Wellington interprovinoial team leaves here on Sunday next. The matoh against Otago takes plaoe on the following Wednesday, and on the Saturday after that the visitors meet tho Canterbury men. They return by the next day's boat, consequently they will only be absent from Wellington a week. The Committee of Management of the Bugby Union intend to try an experiment whon the next Cnp Matoh takes plaoe at Newtown. On that oooasion no charge will bo mode for admission, bnt boxes will be fixed up at the gates, and on eaoh will be pasted a printed Blip inviting the publio to contribute to the funds of the Union. If a fair sum is obtainable in this way no charge will be made on future oooasions, but if the experiment does not prove a Buooess, the old plan of collecting will be reverted to. A Dunedin correspondent contributes the following interesting notes in regard to the aeleotion of a team to represent Otago against Wellington : — "It ia now understood that Russell will be tho full-baok, and that Bee, Galbraith, and Ross (Dunedin Club), will be the three-quarters. Galbraith has been up in Dunedin from Inveroargill once alroody this season, and it is feared that he may not be able to get away' again. Tho Bugby Union, however, will make strenuous efforts to get him. Should these efforts be no successful, Murray will be in the team, that is if he is not in before Boss, whioh la considered improbable, The half-backs remain as great a stumbling blook as ever. To-morrow, in the trial fifteen, Bowlor and Fraser are being tried. Bowler plays threeqnarter-baok in the Pirates, and it remains to be soen how he will shape nearer the scrimmage. Eraser is very lightlighter, I should think, than Merlet, and something of the same kind of player — a good collar, and dodgy runner, but he has a bad leg. Of the forwards Jim Allan, Rattray, Martin, are, I think, pretty certain for a plaoe, and Treseder (Zingari) most likely of the outsiders. Mills has not been, playing up lately, and has been doing a lot of loafing, the consequence being that ho is not in to-morrow's trial fifteen. Strong was not chosen to praotise at all — Why, nobody Knows. Niohol has aUo been left out in the cold, but he is getting too old for it. Lindsay, who played in the seoond fifteen of the Pirates last season, and was pub into the field this season, is in the trial fifteen, and is bidding hard for his plaoe. Butterworth (Dunadin), Book (Monteoillo), T. Henderson and Kroon (Union), are the remaining four forwards in to-morrow's praotioe matoh. Book and Henderson will probably get in, but Drabble (Pirates) and Dallas (Monteoillo) will run the other two hard. Menelaus (Port Chalmers) and Wiggins (Kaikorai) both junior clubs, have been playing in the trial matches and astonishing the senior players by .their all-round play. Parsons (Union) is also a likely outsider. George Campbell's knee is still bad, and ho has been unable to play since the AthleticWellington match a month ago. It is very probable that he will not bo able to take part in another game this soason.
