HARBOUR BOARD.

The ordinary fortnightly meeting of the Harbour Board' was held yesterday afternoon. Present— Messrs. E. Peoroe (in the ohair), Duthie, Heaton, Nathan, Booth, and Captain Rose. The Chairman announced that arrangements had been completed for taking JBI4OO out of the Sinking Fund. Acoounts amounting to £GH 5s 2d were passed for payment. The Chairman intimated that the first progress payment, amounting to .£1591 2s Gd, for the extension of tho outer T of the Queen's Wharf would have to be met. The amount was passed. The Harbourmaster's report showed there was an increase of 20 vessols, with a tonnage equal to 1475 tons, for the month of June, as compared with the corresponding poriod last year. A communication was reoeivod from Messrs. R. E. Fletcher & Co., of Dunedin, electrical engineers, who made an offer to erect a tubular iron mast on the wharf, between 50 and 60 feot in height. The mast to be furnished with an eleotrio light of 3000 candle power, togother with a lantern and reflector, for £60. The letter went on to state that tho firm would supply a nuitable dynamo machine and water motor for driving the machine, and also the nfloessary wires, cables, &o. The offer included the maintenance of a light from sunset to midnight during the whole of the time the Exhibition is open. But little space would be ocoupied by the plant, as the dynamo machine and the motor would be enclosed in the base of the most. The letter further intimated that the firm had contracted to ereot a mast 100 ft. high for the Exhibition, and the same staff of men would be able to work both plants. The Chairman remarked that he was in favour of aooepting the offer. The offer of Messrs Fletcher & Co. was certainly a very moderate one, and he thought that the wharf should be v well lighted as it was possible to be. Mr. Duthie moved that the matter be left in the hands of the Chairman to accept the offer, providing the City Corporation furnished the water for the motive power free of cost. The motion was agreed to. A letter was read from the Premier in answer to a communication forwarded to him by the Chairman of the Board on the subject of endowing the Board as other Harbour Boards in the colony hod been endowed by the Government. The Premier stated that the matter would be brought under the notice of the Cabinet. The following tenders wore aooepted:— Hoop steel and studs, Messrs. W. Dawson and Co.; new shed for inner T, Messrs. M'Lean and Sons. A speoial meeting woe then held for the purpose of confirming the addition to By-law No. 53, relative to permitting coal for the consumption of vessels to pass over the wharf free of oharges. The addition was confirmed, and the meeting adjourned.
