Arthur Armstrong applied for a Hoenso for the Union Hotel. Granted. He further , applied for permission to change the name ■ of the house to the Ship Hotel, and to be allowed to keep the place open until 12 o'clock. The first application was granted, but the second was refused. An application fora license for Oilmor's i Family Hotel (late Oxford) was made by i Andrew Hamilton. An 11 o'clock license was i granted. i The police objected to a renewal of tho ; license held by Thomas Flaherty, of the ' Commercial Hotel. Inspector Gooual! stated that the house was not fit for occupation as it now stood. It was in a wretohed state . upstairs at present. Repairs were badly ' required. Mr. Gully appeared for the ap- ! plioant, and stated that the houso had : changed hands. The application was adjourned for a fortnight, the Clerk haring ' omitted to give notice of objeotion to tbo licensee. With regard to a similar application made 7 by Alfred Wakeford, of Barrett's Hotel, 3 Inspector Goodall said that the police ob- * jeoted to a lioense being granted on the ground that the house was not in a satilfac- ? Tory state. It would be recollected that at the last meeting the Benoh ordered that the 1 house should be rebuilt. Mr. Gully raid he was aware of that. j Beplying to a question, the Bench stated that in future all those hotels which po«Bessed 11 o'clock licenses would not be , obliged to keep lights bandog after tho hour / of oloeing. Begarding an application made by Thomas ' Urwin for a license for the Branch Hotel. Inspector Goodall said that the houso had been recently improved. Tho applioant had ' taken a cottage at the back for the 1 use cf the family, and the hotel was now larger than some cf those which had just been licensed by tho Bench. 1 Last year an objeotion was made to the hotel, and the Bench then dooided that it must be rebuilt before the present meeting took place. He had no objection to tbe house as it now stood. The applioant informed the Bench that there were now 13 rooms arailable for boarders, borne of the^bedrooms were double rooms. Mr. Kh»w appeared for tho applicant, and stated that his client had no objeotion to the application being adjourned until the Bunch were able to inspect the house. Mr, Barn6tt thought

Renewals of licenses wore granted to tho following :— Henry Sullivan, National Hotel ; William Light, Queen's Hotel ; David Orr, City Buffet; Juoob Lichtsoheindl, Empire Hotel; Phillip Moo) lor. Occidental Hotel; Jas. Smith, Poit OOioe Hotel ; 8. S. Downos, Plor Hotel; Hobt. Walker, Melbourne Hotol ; Goc Rylands, Rylnnds' Hotel ; N. J. Isaacs, Contral Hotel. A license was^grantod to Mary Ana Stanley for tho Criterion Hotel. There was no objeotion to an application for n renewal of tho wino lioonse held by W. F. Ross, and it waa granted.
