CITY COUNCIL.

The following is the report of tho Pablic Works Committee, to be presented to-mor-row evening :— The Committee beg to recommend: — 1. That tenders for the Corporation insurances be called for as usual. 2. That bylaws be mado under tho Tramways Act, 1872, and the Municipal Corporations Act, 1876, and the Acts amending the same, to charge a license fee on every etoam tram engine, on every tramway carriage carrying passengers or goods of any kind propelled by steam or horse power ; to license each engine-driver, horse-driver, and guaid employed on any tramway in the city of Wellington. 3. That an application for transfer of the lease of seotion 37, Town Belt, from Mr. F. Hill to the Wellington Tramways Company, be acoeded to, 4. That permission be granted for the erection of verandahß as under — Ballingerßros., Lambton Quay, and W. Spicer, Courtenay Place. 5. That tho application of one of the Corporation workmen for an inorcuß ia wages be not acoedei to. G. That the Wordßworth-ntroot drain be extended, at an estimated cost of £66. 7. That Hankeyatreet be kerbed, channelled, and the footpaths formed, at an estimated cost of £66. 8. That the footpaths be formed and asphalto channels laid in Roxburgh-street, at an estimated coat of £62. 9. That the footpaths on Lambton Quay, between Stout-street and BaUanoe-street, be flagged, at an estimated cost of £6$ 10a. 10. That tho footpaths on west side of Wellington Torrace, from Clifton Terrace to Church-street, be flagged, at an estimated cost of £130. 11. That the offer of Mr. Mark Bird, to lay road-metal on Stanley-street for the sum of £o, be accepted. 12. That Mason's steps be repaired, at an estimated cost of £20. 13. That an additional lamp be ereoted at Glenbervio l'errace. 14. That Mr. William Baylis, tho present contractor for Russell Terrace and part of Waripori-Btreet, haying committed a broach of his contract, notice be served on him and his sureties, under condition 18 of the contract, that the Council will take tho works out of his hands and carry them on nndor sub-olaußO B of the same conditions, by rolotting the works to another contrator ; and that, owing to Mr. Baylis' delay, and on the certificate of the City Surveyor, a period of — weeks be allowed within which the second contractor shall complete tho works ; and that tenders be forthwith called for such completion of works. 15. That accounts amounting to £105 15s be passed for payment.
