This Dat. (Before Mr. H. S. Wardoll, E.M.) DRUNKENNESS. Charles Mitohell admitted a charge of having been drnnk while in ohargoof ahorse on Lambton-qnay last night. Inspector Goodall stated that on tho 3rd of January last the accused was fined for riding a horse while he was under the influence of liquor. He was aho punished for ill-treating the animal. His Worship imposed a fine of GOs and costs, with tho alternative of seven days' imprisonment. James Monaehan was fined 5s for having been drnnk in Bnokle-street last night. TDK EMFLOTMENT OF FEMALES. David Jaoobowitoh, tailor. Courtenay-pkoe, appeared to answer a charge of having employed one Maggie Belcher after 2 pm. on Saturday, the 23rd of May. Inspector Goodall deposed that on the afternoon of Saturday week he visited the accused's premises in Courtenay Place in company with Constable Milton. He saw a woman, who gave the name of Maggie Beloher, at work on the premises. Accused said that the woman was his wife. Constable Milton said—" Surely, you haven't two wives ? Mrs. Jacobowitoh has just gone out of the room." Aconsed replied —"Oh 1 yes ; I've two wives." The woman Bhonld not have been kept employed after 2 o'clock, in accordance with the provisions of the Act. Maggio Beloher was examined. She said that on Saturday week sho went to work later than usual, and remained behind of her own accord. He did not ask her to stay after 2 o'olook. A fine of 10s and costs was inflioted. Agnes Paul, dressmaker, Lambton Quay, pleaded Not Guilty to a charge of having employed Edith Grant after 2 p m. on Saturday weok. Inspector Goodall said he understood the defence was that Miss Grant was employed as a saleswoman and not as a workgirl. Evidenoe was given by the Inspector to tho effect that at a quarter-past 4 on tho 23rd of last month ho visited tho defendant's premises, and fonnd Edith Grant engaged in a room behind tho shop. She should have boon sent away at 2 o'clock that afternoon. Edith Grant deposed that Bho had beon in defendant's employ for the Dast 14 months. When Inspeotor Goodall visited tho premises she wai working a garment for her employer. When she was engaged she was told that her duties would be to attend the shop and do any sewing work that might he requirod. Hi 3 Worship, in imposing a fine of 20j and costs, said he questioned whether females benefited much by the Aot under which the case was laid. MARITAL INFEMCITT. The hearing of tho oases in whioh Henry Carter charged Jane Carter with assault, and Jano Carter oharged Henry Carter with a Bimilar offence, was adjourned for a few days. WANDERING ANIMALS. Thomas Spenoer and Honry Ferris were eaoh fined Is and coats for having allowed horses to wander at large.
