Stanley, while oleaning the spouting on the roof of the City Hotel, Blipped and fell through a skylight, falling a distance of 35ft on to the asphalt in the baok yard. Ho it not ezpeoted to live. This Day. Stanley, who was injured at the City Hotel, died at the Hospital this morning. John Aitken, settler at Outrun, was found dead on his farm this morning. The Women's Gospel Temperanoe Unioik organised here by Mrs. Leavitt, have resolved to take vigorous action in the oity and suburbs. Considerable importance attached to the decision, as it is considered it will effect all joint stook and other companies of the oity, by giving all shareholders possessed of .£25 a qualification to vote. Ekifton, 29th May. The election of Chairman of the County Council was fixed for Wednesday last, the Clerk of the Council presiding. When it came to voting, tk« parties were three and three, and the Connty Clerk nlaimed the right to exeroise a outing vote, and did so in favour of Mr. C. E. Craig. Mr. Mentoath protested against the legality of the Clerk's aotion, and the meeting was adjourned till yosterday to take outside legal advioe. On the Council meeting to-night, Mr. C. E. Craig did not take the Chairman's seat, the inference being that the legal opinion obtained had been adverse to the aotion of the Clerk. Mr. Craig almost immediately proposed Mr. Mentoath as temporary Chairman, and to this there waa no amendment. The motion was oarried unanimously. Mr. B. C. Menteath was subsequently eleoted County Chairman.
