HOME FOR FALLEN WOMEN. THE Wellington Christian Society's Home was opened in December last as a home for the fallen. Its inception was the outoome of a meeting called on 28th May, 1884, at the Princess Theatre, by Captain Smith, to consider what provision oould be made to accommodate the many girls who were found anxious to forsako their evil courses. At this meeting a Committee was formed to devise means to (rive cSeot to thiß purpose ; the outcome, after some delay, was the renting of a honse in Alpha-street, and the engagement of a matron. Dnring the six months of its existence, 39 women have been reoeived into it, some of whom have returned to their homes, others have gone into serviae, and, unhappily, others have returned to their former life. Yet upon the whole the experience gained, and the results, as shown in tho number reaoned, have been enoonraging. It is now found that the present house is too small and otherwise unsuitable. The Committee, feeling it incumbent upon them to provide more adequate accommodation, have determined to appeal to the publio for the necossary monetary help to enable them to purchase larger premises. They havo under offer for a month a suitable house, sufficiently large, and provided with all the conveniences necessary for such an institution. The amount neceseary to be obtained is £400, which, with the Government subsidy, will seoure the freehold. The property will be vested in trustees. Several gentlemen of good standing in tho city have kindly consented to act in that capacity. The Committee fool that an effort of this kind does not require the setting foith of reasons to ensure a generous response ; while the nature of the ovil sought to be remedied does not admit of it. Tho faot, patent to all who havo oyes to see and ears to hear, is that the brothels of the city are full of young women, very many mere children, led to a life of infamy, in many oaees scarce knowing what they were doing. The members of the Committee will wait upon tho publio for subscriptions. WM. PRICE, President; J. M'ALPINE, Seoretary.
