In the House of Commons to-day, tho Marquis of Hartington, Secretary of State for the War Dopartmont, in reply to a quostion, stated, regarding operations iv tho Soudan, that tho Government had decided to make Wady Haifa tho advanced frontier, and to withdraw tho troops to that point on tho rising of the Nilo. Tho expedition to Khartoum would bo abandoned, and an endeavour would be made to establish an administration from Dougola. It was intended to oomploto tho railway sybtom along tho Nile, but tho projootoa lino from Suakim to Berber would bo relinquished. In oonolusion, Lord Hartington stated that England would oontinuo to retain possession of Suakim until arrangements could bo concluded for tho oooupation of that port by some eivilisod Power.
