PARLIAMENT.
♦ HOUSE OF KEPKESENTATIVES. This Dat. The Speaker took the chair at 2.30. Mr. Steward gave notice that ha would move to-morrow, that a sum of £50 be placed on the Supplementary Estimates aa a bonus for certain officials of the House in consequence of the double session this year. Mr. Macandrew brought up the report of tho Standing Orders Committee, a voluminous dooument, the most important recommendation of which was that the House should meet at 10 a.m. on sitting days, up to 5.30 p.m., with an interval of an hour for refreshments between 1 and 2 o'olook. Certain days aro set out for private members, notices of motion, and other days for private Bills, &o. Mr. Macandrew hoped the suggestion would at onoe be adopted, and that the Government would support it. The Premier eaid that the proper time to discuss the matter would be the beginning of the next session. Mr. Stewart thought that if it wore only argued th«n, it would never be adopted. Mr. Macandrew said that he would movo that the subject be considered on Wednesday next. In reply to Mr. Hamlin, 'who wishes to have an ad valorem impost duty placed upon foreign honey and to allow all apiarian apphanoos and beekeepers' sundries admitted free,thq Premier said that.as had already been stated, tbo tariff could not be altered piocemeal. In Victoria, Queensland Tasmania, and Western Australia, there was an import duty on honey j the question would receive consideration when that of revising the tariff was dealt with. At the present moment certain hr tides connected with the honey industry were here admitted free. In reply to Mr. Pyke, the Premier said that a Bum of monoy would be placed on the Supplemontary Estimates towards utilising the services of Professor Ulrioh in connection with the goldfiolda and mines of the colony.
