CRICKET. FINISH OF THE SENIOR CUP MATOH.

A large oonoodrse of people assembled on the Basin Besorve on Saturday afternoon to witnosa the finish of the Senior Cup matoh, Phcenlx v. Star, which, as reported in our last issue, resulted in the defeat of the Phoonlx team by four wiokets. The game was resumed at 2.80 o'olook, and at 4 o'olook the finUh took place. With two wioket* down for 43, the Stan resumed batting. Much speculation was indulged in as to whether the remaining eight men would be able, to pat together the 05 required to win, and the greatest interest was manifested in theproaeedinga. Lake, Roberts, Twist, and Nioholls played good orioket, and materially assisted in the viotory, but it was mainly through Brown's efforts that the Phoenix Eleven wore to oasily defeated. This batsman was in splendid form, and in a short space of time he suoceeded in increasing the ¦core by 37, carrying his bat out. At the close of the game his fellow clubmen showed their appreciation of his services by carrying him off the field shoulder-high. At the invitation of their President, Mr. Edward Dixon, the Star team adjourned to the Calodonian Hotel and partook of tome light refreshment. In the evening the Phoenix toam met at the Post Offloe Hotel, at the invitation of Mr. James Wood, the oaptain, and spent a very pleasant evening. Johnston and Co. and Levin and Co. and on eleven from the offices of Messrs. TurnbuU and Co. was played at Island Bay on Saturday, resulting in a, viotory for the former by four wioketa. The totals of the first and second innings were — TurnbuU and Co. 17 and 29 (St. George 12) ; Levin and Co., 35 (Davis 14 and 12). A match was played at Karori on Saturday afternoon between the Karori Club and the second eleven of the Wellington Club, the latter winning by 21 runs, the scores being— Wellington, 88 (Hadflold 25, Brown 13, Fleming 10, Tarletan 10, Izard 9, extras 10), and Karon 67 (O. Eagle 27 and J. Eagle 9, extras 15). J. Eagle bowled most successfully for Karori, Ms analysis reading six wiokets for 14 runs. Burnett (three for 20) and Hadfield (two for 8) did most exeontion for the Wellington Club. A matoh was played at Karori on Saturday between tho Malvern and United dabs, resulting in a viotory for the Malvernsby three wiokets. Hill (34), Lancaster (32), and Dryden (11) were the highest scorers for the victors, and Rose and Cole (20 and 22 respectively) did good work for the losers. A matoh was played on the College ground on Saturday between the second eleven of the College and the Oriental Clnb, resulting in a victory for the former by four wiokets and three runs. Wardell (31 and 3, sot out), for the viotors, and Levy (18 not oat, and 8), C. Bolcombe, and H. Cook (12 oaoh), for the losers, were the highest individual scorers.
