The Government of the United States nave entered a protest against the introduction by the Porte of a system of ad valorem duties on goods coming from all countries excopt Austria, Italy, and France. The reported settlement between Chili and Peru, whereby the latter ceded the provinces of Arica and Tunca to the Chilian Government, has been confirmed. Sir John Lubbook has introduced into the House of Commons a Bill for tho purpose of providing facilities for the registration of colonial companies. 28th May. Active warfare is still going on in Madagascar, and the Malagasy Government have issued orders for the expulsion of every French subject from the island. 30th May. The Government have granted the following rewards for information afforded in connection with the Phcanix Park murders, viz., Thomas Farrell, £1000; and Michael Kavanagh, .£250. Prince Bismarck threatens to abolish the German Reichstag unless they consent to his proposals for the amelioration of the condition of the Socialists. The Pope has appealed to Ireland for the customary " Peter's pence," which contribution, it was rumoured, the Irish intended to discontinue in consequenoe of tho action taken by his Holiness in attempting to suppress outrages in Ireland. < The proceedings at the caucus meoting of Liberals, oonvened by Mr. Gladstone yesterday, were of a most harmonious character. The direotors of the Oriontal Bank Corporation recommend a dividend of 5 per cent.
