Four towns have been completely destroyed, and in the town of Alajueta alone several thousand persons have perished. The Queen has addressed a letter to Sir William Vernon Harcourt, the Home Secretary, in which her Majesty states that she has been greatly touched by the enthuiiastio loyalty, affection, and devotion to her peraon as Bhown by the congratulations upon her escape from the recent attempt made upon her life. Her Majesty tenders her heartiest and warmest thanks to the highest and I humblest of her subjects, and states that she ' will continue unceasing efforts to uphold the . honour and glory of her dear country, and maintain the prosperity and happiness of hor people.
