THE EDUCATION BOABD OP THE ; DISTRICT OP WELLINGTON. THE Second Examination for Eight Scholarships, tenable for two years from lßt January, 1881, offered by the Educa'ion Board, will be held simultaneously in the Normal School, Wellington, and in thd Greytown School, on WEDNESDAY, the 16th November, at 10 a.m. The examination is open to all children, whether they are receiving their instruction in ?nblic Schools or not, tinder 15 yeara of age on the ltt day of November next. j The names, ages, and addresses of all intending competitors should be forwarded to the Secretary not later than the 10th Noyember. The scholarships are thus appropriated : — One scholarship of £3Q annual value, and one scholarship of £ iO annual velue, open to all ohildren attending any EChool in tho City of Wellington. One scholarship of .£3O annual value, open to all children attending any school in the Wairarapa District. One scholarship of £39 annual value, open to all children attending any school in the Wellington Country District. Also one scholarship of .£2O annual value, two scholarships of j6lo annual value, and one scholarship of iJIG annual value, open to all ohildren in any school in the Wellington Education District. These scholarships are given eubject to diligence and good conduct on the part of the i-cholars, and the regulations contained in the addendum to c'auae 51 of " The Kducation Act, 1877,' ' which read 3as follows :—: — " Tho successful competitor for any each Scholarship shall receive the amonnt of hia or her Scholarship only so long a3 ho or she shall continue his or her education at any School or Educational Institution under the control of the Board at which the higher branches of education are taught, but if there be no such school or institution in the district where the holder of the Scholarship resides, then at such school, subject to inspection by a Public School Inspector, as the Board may approve of." The subjects ot examination are those prescribed for Standard VI., by Order in Council, of date 24th September, 1878. but no scholarships will be awarded unles3 twothirds cf the pos-iblo number of marks are obtained.
