Clerk of the Scales— Mr. W. Bromley. Clerk of the Course — Mr. W. lorns. Secretary — Mr. H. M. Lyon. [By Telegraph.] (from our own correspondent.) Hutt Eace Course, 12.30 p.m. The weather is very fine. There is a strong breeze, but no dust on the course, which the recent rains rendered capital going, the herbage being thick and springy. The trains to the Hutt were well filled, especially that at 11 o'clock, which was very heavily laden. At present there are about 800 on the course, and the crowd is thickening. The grand stand and paddock are also beginning to fill. There are plenty of bookmakers, but little betting. Hill and Poolo have a totalisator in the paddock, and Eobinson one on the course, but investors are shy, sweeps being the favorite medium of investment. A small stand is, for the first time, erected outside the lawn. Nearly all the horses which accepted have arrived, and good sport is anticipated. The Guards' Band on the stand form a great attraction. The number of ladiea present is not large, but there is a good line of carriaees inside the rails. Bennett's refreshment booths are already well patronised. The various arrangements on the course are excellent. Mr. Lyon, the secretary, and the stewards are very busy in doing everything they can to ensure the success of the meeting. Eailwat Stakes Handicap, of 50 soys. Three-quarters of a mile. Mr. Walters' Billingsgate, 4yrs, 9st 41b (Wattie) 1 Mr. Butler' s Luna, 6 vrs, 7st 121b (Derritt) 2 Mr. Harding's Miss Domett, 3yrs, 7st ... 3 After three attempts the flag fell to a moderate start, of which Billingsgate got the best. Luna lay second at the leader's quarters uutil entering the straight, when Derritt was on her, and answering well, she brought Billingsgate to the whip at the distance. For a moment the issue appeared doubtful, both jockeys whipping hard. Then Billingsgate, who was running tho gamest, drew ont, and won rather easily at the finish by half a length. Danebury and Euination also started. Time, lmin 20secs. Hurdle Handicap, of 50 soys. About two miles and a-half . Mr. Eay's Shamrock, 9st 71b (Higginson) 1 Mr. J. Desmond's Kangaroo, lOst 41b (M'lvor) 2 Mr. M'lvor's Old Ireland, lOst 91b (M'Elwain) 3 Hamlet and Eclipse also ran. Betting, 6 to 4 agains j Shamrock, 3 to 1 against Kangaroo and Old Ireland. Kangaroo led, and was followed by Hamlet for the first mile, Shamrock and Old Ireland running a waiting race, six lengths behind the rest. Making the turn under the hill, Shamrock went up, and, going past everything, won rather easily by a length, Kangaroo, who came with a great rush at the finish, being second. A protest has been entered against Shamrook by the owner of Eclipse, for driving him off at the last hurdle. The protest was, however, disallowed. Lone Hand is the favorite for the Hutt Park Spring Handicap.
