5 per cent. New Zealand 10-40 loan, 104 ; 5 per cent. New Zealand loan, 1889, 104. The Orient Company's steamer Aconcagua arrived at Plymouth yesterday. The English, Scottish, and Australian Chartered Bank pays 4 per cent, dividend, and carries forward JE6OOO to tho reserve fnnd. The Australian cricketers commenced a match to-day against eighteen of the Crystal Palace Club, on tho Palaco ground. There [ was a largo attendance of the public, and the weather was fine throughout the day. The Australians went in first, and put together 155 runs before the last wicket fell. Blackham was the highest scorer, with 49 ; he was given out leg before wicket. The Palaco Eighteen then commenced their first innings, and when the stumps were drawn for the day had scored 44 without losing a wicket. 20th July. The bill introduced by the Government for granting compensation to Irish tenant farmers, undor certain conditions, came again under consideration in tho House of Commons last night. The amondmeHt which was adopted on Saturday, fixing the conditions upon which landlords would be required to mako compensation, was, after further discussion, negatived, and thq bill finally passed through committee. Manilla, 19th July. An earthquake which took place hero has caused Gjrcat damage. Calcutta, 20fch July. The troops which are reported as having deserted at Girishk partly consisted of Ayoub Khan's cavalry. Montreal, 20th July. The Marchioness of Lome proceeds to England shortly for the purpose of obtaining change of air.
