THE PROPERTY TAX

A few days ago we mentioned that it was the intention of the Government to extend the time for sending in returns under the Property Assessment Act from the 2nd to tho 31st proximo. An official notification to this effect appears to-day in our advertising columns. As a matter of fact, the fixing of even the later date now appointed may be a purely formal proceeding, for until Parliament shall have approved the modifications proposed by the Colonial Treasurer the amended and simplified forms cannot of course be issued, and it would probably be fonnd impracticable to enforce the original schedules.
