PIRACY OF TRADE MARK.

A successful case of prosecution of a piracy of trade marks has engaged the attention of the Magistrates at the Water Police Court, Sydney. The agents of Messrs. Lanman & Kemp, the well-known manufacturer of "Murray and Lanman'a Florida Water," a perfume having an enormous Bale in all parts of the world, were the prosecutors, and Mr. J James Clark, of 256, George-street, the defendant. There have been no less than twelve imitations of Murray and Lamnan's Flo* rida Water in the market These imitations are as usual of an inferior quality, and their sale is of course prejudicial to the reputation of the genuine article. There were two charges agaiust Mr. Clark of selling bottles bearing an imitation of the genuine label, to both of which he pleaded guilty, and in each case was fined 2s, the price of the bottle, 20s and 5s 6d costs of Court ; the presiding magistrate stating that had it not been for tbe fact that the goods were told by defendant?! clerk the find would have been £6i it snob, another case were brought before them the full penalty would be 'inflicted. ''''!., ! The labels: in question did 1 not bear the words if Murray and Lantban's Florida Water,*'! but otherwise were colorable imitations of Lantnah ! and Kempji duly registered trade mark. . ( , We understand that other prosecutions are pending, and that a Bill in Equity is being filed to check the improper trading that is going on, for which steps the agents for the sale of Murray and Lanman's Florida Water are deserviug of every encouragement and success. —Sydney Morning Herald.
