THE INTERPROVINCIAL CRICKET MATCH. Wellington v. Nelson. [FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.]
The annual cricket match, Wellington v. Nelson, commenced at Nelßon yeaterday. The weather was fine but cloudy, and the ground " dead." The Nelson men went in first, but only made 49, the Wellington bowling being very good, and the fielding excellent. Halliday and Arnold went in first to the bowling of Ingle and Duncan, who, on White and Fowler making a stand, were relieved by Page and Armitage, Ingto resuming' towards the end of the innings, 'lhe Wellington men went In at 2.50 p.m., Webb and England facing the bowling of Eden and Wigzelf. Webb was run out without BC.QJC-
ing; Salmon was dismissed by Wigzell after making 2. A remarkable series of " duck's eggs" followed, the Wellington men being unable to do anything with the splendid bowling of Eden and Wigzell. Six were bowled in succession for nil, and 8 wickets having fallen for 17 runs, things looked bad for Wellington, but just at thia juncture Eden strained his arm, and was obliged to cease bowling, Wigzell being taken off shortly afterwards. England all the time had been playing very steadily and well, and being joined by Duncan the two rapidly ran np the score. England, after losing eight partners, at length was given out lbw after making 29 by exceedingly fine play. Brown carried out his bat for 8, the total being 51, or 2 runs ahead of Nelson. At 120 Nelson commenced the second innings, Arnold and W. Eden going in against the bowling of Ingle and Page. Ingle disposed of Arnold for a brace, but Halhday filling the vacancy soon made things very lively for the field, hitting the bowling in all directions. Armitage relieved Page of the ball, and dismissed W. Eden for 6, his bowling also proving fatal to Humphrey for a single. White joined Halliday, and the pair held the wicketa until the stumps were drawn at 5 p.m., the score, including one bye, being 29 for 3 wickets, Halliday not out for 16. This leaves Wellington 81 to get to win. Wellington now in. 2 p.m. Dunoan and Brown went in first. The former was clean bowled without scoring. Brown was run out soon after, and Webb was given out l.b.w The umpire's decision was disputed by the Wellington men, some of whom refused to continue the game. The Nelson umpire who had given the decision resigned, and another was appointed. The Nelson men are very much hart at the bad feeling manifested.
