THE NEW COURT HOUSE TENDERS.
+ The contract for the new Supreme Court House, Wellington, bas now been signed, and the complete tenders are given below; The building, to be erected on the Thorndon reclamation, is to bejf briek — a full description has tl ready appearm io our columns — and the difficult nature of the site renders it necessary for the foundation to be of a particularly substantial and costly 'description. In order to have the work done as cheaply as is consistent with safety and permanence, separate tenders jwere called for the foundations and superstructure, the former being in three alternative ways. That specified- as Mo. 1 was a solid foundation, built up from the rocky bottom below tha reclaimed ground, tLe latter to be excavated accordingly. No. 2 foundation was of timber Biles driven down to the solid bottom. No 3, was of concrete piles builton the rock itself. The respective tenders were as follows :— Barry and M'Dowell, superstructure, £18,700 (accepted); foundations, solid, £8970; Umber piles, £7718; concrete (accepted), £6085 Samuel Brown, superstructure, £-23,500; foundations, s»iid,| £5700; timber piles, £6400; concrete, £7300. Murdoch and Rose, superstructure, £24,036;
foundations, solid, £7100 ; timbor piles, £6267; concrete, £7100. James Lockie, superstructure, £23,440; foundations, solid, £10,737; timber piles, £10,972; concrete, £10,462.
