LATER PARTICULARS.

We are requested by the agents of the Transatlantic Insurance Company, Messrs. Wbillim, Nicholson and Co., to state that two-thirds of the losses sustained by that Company by the recent fire are covered by re-insurances in Home offices. MEETING OF THE TRUSTEES OF THE WESLEYAN CHURCH. The trustees and members of the Quarterly Board of the Wesleyan Church, Mannersstreet, met last night to consult, and adopt measures for resuming the services It was announced that the Key. J. Paterson had offered his Church on the week days when it was not required by himself. The Rev. W. H. West and others also did the same. The offer of Mr. Paterson was very thankfully accepted. The holding of the Sunday services appeared to be the most difficult problem to solve, as the evening service is usually attended by about 600 parsons. It was stated that the Princess Theatre, in Tory-street, could be had at a rental of £7 per week, an offer which was considered to be exhorbitant, and ultimately rejected. The next proposal considered was to rent the Arcade at £3 103 for Sunday services only, inclusive of gas and the use of 150 chairs. This offer was unanimously accepted, chiefly on account of its proximity to the late Church. The next subject of discussion was the most important which the meeting had to consider, namely, whether to erect a temporary building or a new church. It being the opinion of many of the meeting that a wooden building would not be allowed by the City Corporation, a deputation was formed to wait upon the Mayor this morniDg to inauire. There seemed to be an insuperable objection to a brick church among many of those present, several saying they would not worship in one, probably from a fear of the earthquakes. Again, it was argued that the time had arrived when the present site had become too valuable to occupy, and also that it was too close to other large buildings. It was pointed out that shortly the new organ will arrive, and unless something definite was resolved upon it would have to be stored, as it would not be desirable to erect it in a temporary building. Ultimately, the meeting adjourned for a week to enquire more fully what could be done towards permanent provision for the congregation. It may be mentioned that the members reckon their loss at £3000. All the books were saved, and many other articles of a portable nature. A deputation of members of the Mannersstreet Wesleyan Church waited upon his Worship the Mayor this morning, requesting to be allowed to erect a temporary wooden budding, pending the construction of the new Church, which will occupy some two years in buUding. His Worship in reply, said that he had no power to accede to the request of the deputation, but, that he fully sympathised with them under the circumstances, and could safely promise that as far as the Corporation was concerned no opposition would beaffoJded. MEETING OF THE WORKING MEN'S CLUB COMMITTEE. A meeting of the committee and trustees of the Working Men's Club was held last night at the White Swan Hotel. It is stated that certain proposals were made by the trustees in the estate of Eddie & Jack, and in the meantime the committee are doing all they can to ?et suitable premises for the club to meet in. ye are glad to see that the committee are taking such prompt steps in the matter, inasmuch as it would be a public calamity, if the club, which has proved a great bom to the working classes, were to be lost to the city. RECOGNITION OF SERVICES RENDERED. The Underwriters' Association have resolved to grant £50 to each of the Fire Brigades, £25 to the Naval Brigade, and £25 to the Fire Police for s»rvieeg rendered during the fire. THJB MISSING MAN. We are happy to state that there appears to be every reason to believe that the report as to « man ha,yjng been burned, jn the Opera Hou*

was founded on a misapprehension. It appears that Mr. Asher, the Captain of the Fire Police, entered the dress circle of the Opera House with a hose, to direct it if possible upon the burßing ceiling. He was driven back by tt.e smoke, and escaped with some difficulty, hav'ng to crawl out on his hands and knees. One of h s own men, named Hook, but^ whom in the confusion he did not recognise, was with him at the timeMr Asber suddenly lost sight of his companion, and finding he did not come out of the same door as be (Mr. Asher) did, and knowing tbat the ceiling fell in a few minutes afterwards, Mr. Asher assumed ibat the man must have been overpowered by the smoke and had perished. Fortunately, Hook turned up last night, and gave ocular demonstration that he was all right, explaining that he left by a different door from that by which Mr. Asher took bis departure.
