Fortunately, with a jug of water close at hand he was enabled "Vef-y speedily to extinguish the flames. The shelf in question is close to a window looking out upon a passage leading to Mr. Dransfleld's yard. The window, which is never opened, was found on this occasion raised about a foot or eighteen inches, and several wax matches were found strewn about the rophV, and also in tho passage near tbe window. The papers destroyed were a quantity of old briefs, and were of no valuo. It is fortunate that tbe fire wat discovered so soon by Mr. Moorhouse, or tho consequences would probably have been very -serious. Tho police are investigating the affair.
