IRISH OBSTRUCTION OF THE ARMY ESTIMATES. LONDON. 18th March.
Belfast was again the scene of riots on St. Patrick's Day. Mobs of men paraded the streets, armed with sticks and stones, and it some instances with firearms: Many fights took place, and the police proving utterlj inadequate to quell what threatened to beconu a most serious, riat, rivalling those of formei years, the military had to be called out. Tht soldiers succeeded in dispersing the mob am restoring quiet in the town. Tbe Army Estimates came on for consideration in the House of Commons last night The Irish memh3rs resumed their obstruc tionist tastics, and repeatedly resorted to thi forms of the House in order to obstruct th passing of the Estimates, with a view of com pelling the consideration of Irish "grievances.' The Swiss Government hps appointed : commission to superintend the collection o exhibits for the Melbourne Exhibition. Wheat is quiet, and the market easy; tii firm, prices hardening.
