RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT.

THIS DAY. (Before Mr. Mansford, R.M.) DESERTION. Henry Winstanley Smith, apprentice on board the Hermione, pleaded guilty to deserting from the ship. The master did not press the case, and prisoner was ordered on board the vessel, Mr. Maosford warning him that he was liable to twelve months' imprisonment. AIT ALLBGBD VALUBLBBS CHEQUE. Ernest Wagcer was charged with obtaining, by means of a valueless cheque, one helmet hat and £4 93 6d in money from James Smith, on 11th January, with intend to cheat and defraud. Prisoner said he did not know how his account stood at the bank. On the application of Inspector Atchison, who stated, that the prosecution were not prepared to go on with the rase at present, prisoner* was remanded till Tuesday. Mr. Mansford adjourned the case till Tuesday next. He increased the hail to two sureties of £100 each, and sad that he could not again allow the father to be one of the sureties.
