It is feared that enormous difficulty will be found in providing bedding for all the visitors expected on the occasion of the railway open- > ing. Many who are intending to come are already telegraphing for beds, which are likely to be at a premium . The town valuation for thi3 year exhibits an increase of £1000, over 25 per cent. Tho total is £45,518 as against last year's £38,420. General surprise is felt at Walsh's respite, which is considered quite unwarrantable. Mr. Kinross) the unsuccessful candidate, after making a speech in very bad taste, accused Mr Shanks, the successful candidate of having on the election day accused him and his committee^of being Hare, because he said he (Shanks) was no real supporter of the Ministry, but was sailing under false colours. Mr. Shanks, in replying, repeated that the statement was false, and declined to make an apology, expressing: himself as a thorough supporter of the Ministry.
