THE CANTERBURY ELEVEN IN AUSTRALIA.
SPECIAL TO TUE POST. CANTERBURY T. EAST MELBOURNE. CANTERBURY VICTORIOUS. [by telegraph.] (from our owk corbbßpondent.) Melbourne, 14th January. The match was resumed this morning, W. Frith and Lee, the " not outs " of the previous evening, again taking their places at the wickets. The former increased his score to 60 before he was disposed of, playing in admirable style, >is also did Lee, who made 29 Fuller bit hard and freely for his 23 but gave four chances before the last one, which proved fatal to him. The innings closed for tbe large score of 270. East Melbourne then went in for second innings and scored 180, Boyle, Musgrave, Horan, and Allee all playing in fine form and making good scores. W. Frith and A«hby bowled splendidly, the former especially, and the Canterbury nelditg was excellent. Only 99 runs were now required to secure avictory for Canterbury, and the requisite number was made without the loss of a wicket. Ollivier and Ashby went in, md at once began scoring- fast, hitting the Melbourne bowling toal! parts of the field. Seven different bowlers, wore tried, but the required 99 runs were put together in 58- minutes. Both men played in magnificent style, only one single chance being givon, which was by Ollivier when 80 had been scored Canterbury thus secured the victory with 10 wickets to go down. Score :—
