Dr. Hodgkioson addressed his constituents at Winton on Friday, and received another vote of confidence. Mr. J. T. Thomson, the Surveyor-General, who owns half the town of InvercargdJ, intends building extensively, and on a grand scale. A great deal of liveliness is beginning to show itselfas regards the Mataura election. Though the candidates both are Greyites, a party has rallied round each. Mr. Shanks, on personal grounds, has tbe support of tbe Conservatives. Mr. Kinross's friends are very active. The poll takes place on Wednesday. People are already preparing for gas illumination os the occasion of (he railway throueh to JJunedin.
