Discount rates, securities, and prices ot wheat and flour are unchanged. 4th January. Sir M. Hicks-Beach, speaking at Gloucester, said that tbe reports regarding the distress throughout the country had been mucb exaggerated, partly for the purpose of maintaining peace. Lord Derby, in a speech at Rochdale, also stated that the reports were much exaggerated, though distress, undoubtedly severe, existed, owing to the distressed state of trade.
