The cricket match between the Taranaki eleven and Auckland colts resulted in tbe former winning easily. The Auckland club made 111 in two innings. The racehorse Pinfire has changed hands, being purchased by Mr. M'Donald for £500. The settling for the Summer Meeting took place to-night. The following cheques were paid:— Vallance, £608; M'Donald, £342 j Butler, £153; Buckland, £148; Walters, £96; Perkins, £70; Percival, £58; Day, £57; Caulton, £38; M'Gee, £33; Edgar, £14; Kitchen, £9; Allen. £9. Tbe funeral of tbe late Mr. Kissline, solicitor, was largely attended. Tbe deceased is understood to bave left two large life insurance policies for the benefit of his family. One was effected ten years ago in tbe Australian Mutual for £2000, and another in the Mutual Life Association within the last year for £4000. A death is reported under suspicious circumstances at Coromandel. A boy died suddenly—it is supposed from a kick inflicted suddenly by another boy. An inquest and post mortem examination have been ordered, and a second doctor has been sent from Auckland. At the Supreme Court, to-day, William Brooke was sentenced to 18 months' imprisonment for stealing from a shop ; Theo. Alexander Cox was sentenced to nine months for larceny as a bailleo ; Patrick Doyle was sentenced to four years for robbery from Messrs. Layers, seedsmen j John Thomas White, two years, for obtaining jewellery under false pretences; Robert William Ballars, for obtaining money by false pretences, nine months ; Benjamin Bennett, stealing from Messrs. Gittos and Sons, two years. A sum of £4000 will be spent by the Roman Catholic educational establishments.
