? This morning, at the conclusion of the businfss of the Police Court, a middle-aged map, who said he was a laborer, came before Mr. Mansford, R.M., and said he wanted protection. He complained that the boarding house keepers in town were trying to poison him. and added that he had saved the contents of his stomach for analysis. Mr. Mansford assured the man that he was labouring under a delusion, observing that no one wanted .to do him any harm. He advised him to go steadily to work, and not let such fancies take possession of his mind. 'The applicant replied tbat he was perfectly right in his mind, aud added that be had written to the Press to refute the slanders that bad been' circulated about him, but no notice was taken of -fiis letters. He had been called a robber and a thief even by clergymen from the altar. In reply to Mr. Mantford, the applicant said he was working for Mr. M'Lean, and that Mr. C. O'Neiil knew him very well. Mr. Mansford said he should like to see Mr M'Lean, Mr. O Neill, or anyone else who knew anything about him. The applicant having promised t9 bring the gentlemen named to the magistrate, left the Court. It may be mentioned tbst the man, who is evidently of unsound mind, called at tbe Evening Povroflre a short time ago and complained that there was a conspiracy among the boarding-bouse keepers to poison him.
