CRIMINAL SITTINGS. YaSTBRDAT. (Before his Honor the Chief Justice.) TRUB BILLS. After we went to press yesterday, the Grand Jury returned true bills in the following cases : — Philip G. Murtagh, assault and wounding; Charles Schmidt, stealing from a dwelling ; James Murphy, rape; Andrew Falloon, assault; James Allan Mackie, forgery. ATTEMPTHD RAPB ON A LITTLE GIRL. James Murphy was charged on two indictments with a rape and an indecent assault ,upon Laura Cooper, aged nine years, the daughter of the postmaster at Greytown. Mr. Izard prosecuted for the Crown; Mr. Cowan defended prisoner. The evidence was, of course, unfit for publication. The offence was committed on the 25th November, in broad daylight, as the child was proceeding home from school. Prisoner was surprised in the commission of the offence by a man who was riding along the road. The girl then jhad. ajtone in her mouth, and the prisoner The jury found prisoner guilty of an attempt at rape. Sentence was deferred.
