The insurances on the George-street fire are :— New Zealand Co.— Tondaut, furniture, £250; Millechamp, stock, £200; H. Richardson, stock, £350 ; total, £800. South British —Tondaut, stock and furniture, £500 ; building in name of Matheson, £400: wines in cellar, £200; total, £1100. Standard— Dreaver, stock, £300. Union— Dreaver, £400. Colonial — Murphy, £100; Brown, £200; Rainbow and other buildings, stock and furniture, £550; total, £850. Norwich Union— Millecbamp, £300; Doodeward, £200: buildings, £150 ; total, £GSO. Neither tbe Victoria nor tbe National is involved. Mr Walton, in whose premises tbe fire originated, allowed his policy to lapse last month. Sub-Inspector Smith has been transferred from Oamaru to Marl borough. Mr. Ascroft is the new editor of tbe Times.
