CHRISTCHURCH. 28th November.

A largely-attended meeting was held tonight in tho Provincial Council Chamber of persons interested in the formation of a Canterbury Temperanco League, to consist jointly of abstainers and non-abstaiaers. A large number of clergymen and others interested in the cause of temperance attended, and the society was formed and a committee of management nominated. The management will bo largely in the hands of ministers and congregations. ! 29 th November. The Acclimatisation Societj has distributed 15,000 trout during the past season. There are still 5000 left for distribution. At a meeting of the Temperance League, the Rev. J. Macfarlane stated that the Japanese Ambassadors, lately in England, were so shocked at the expenditure of one hundred and fifty millions a-year on strong drink, that on their return to their own country, they irftended to send missionaries to Great Britain to try to abate the evil. At the inquest on the man Bovce, who hanged himself at Addington, a verdict of temporary insanity was returned.
