AN EXPLANATION. TO THE EDITOR OF THE EVENING POST.

SIR— I read with surprise in your Thursday's issue the statement of a man named Jo=ef that lie was assaulted iv consequence of something be said in a discussion which took place about a man named Curnow and my wife. This statement is calculated seriously to affect the character of my wife, and I therefore ask you to insert this letter, in which I give an emphatic denial to Josefs assertion. The woman mentioned was one who was cohabiting with Curnow, and had nothing- to do either with me or my wife. I am, &c, Christopher Hall.

I don't like to talk much with people who always agree with me. It is amusing to coquette with an echo a little while, but one on tires of it,— Cariyle.
