THE CENSUS. ? • TO THE EDITOR OP THE EVEXIXG POST.
Sir — In your issue of Saturday last, you state that the Sub-Enumerators were paid by contract. Such was not the case. They were paid by the day, and it was understood that they would do the work well and conscientiously, and, so far as I ran judge, they carried out their work to the best of their ability. You further state that you have heard of many instances in which no census papers were left at house*, and other cases where the papers were not called for. It is to be regretted tbat the persons referred to did not comply with the request contained in the advertisement in your issue of last Saturday week and last Monday week. I can only repeat the request, and if any persons have not been enumerated, the information can yet be obtained if their names and addresses are forwarded to me. As, however, at this date very few responses have been made to those notices, I can only infer that you have been misinformed as to the extent of the omissions. I am, &c., L.,Stowe, Enumerator Hutt Ccfiinty,
