RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT.

» THIS DAY. (Before J. C. Crawford, Esq., R.M.) DRUNKENNESS. Johu Martin was brought up on a charge of drunkenness and disorderly conduct, and also with being a habitual drunkard. It appeared from the evidence of Constable Sullivan that the accused had interfered when he was taking another drunken man to the lock-up, and created a great disturbance in the street. The accused wr< fined 205., or in default fortyeight hours' imprisonment on the first charge, and on the other of habitual drunkenness he was cautioned and discharged. Two other tipplers named Thomns Edmonds and Frank Potty, who had been found druuk and incapable ou the previous day in the street, were each fined o*, or in default 24 hour*' imprisonment. ASSAULT. George Murray vras called on to answer a charge of having assaulted oue Hai/y Williams, but as he did not appear, and the former stated he had no desiro to press the charge, the case was struck out. ANOTHER ASSAULT. James Doyle was charged with having, on the 24th November last, assaulted one Mr. Ebden, a storekeeper at Pipitea Point. It appeared that the case had been the result of a woman's row, and it resulted iv being dismissed.
