There is only four days' supply of water in the reservoir now. A two-storied house at Port Chalmers was burned yesterday. It was insured for £300 in the South British, the furniture for £200 in the same office, and the stock for £350 iv the Union. Sampson's bakery, in Cumberland-street, lias been destroyed by fire. Tiie premises were insured for £270 in the South British, and the stock for £200 in the United Sydney. The Vincent County Council has re-elected Mr. Vincent Pyke chairman, at a salary of £300 a-year. The Herald understands that Augus has given instructions to Messrs. Stewart and Denniston to stop further proceedings in the case of Regina v. Proudfoot, and asks will the Minister of Justice or the responsible law officers of the Crown consent to a nolle prosequit 4th December. Denniston denies that his firm was instructed to stop proceedings, but admits such is likely. It is rumored that the girl is a passenger by the Invercargill, which sailed for England yesterday. Proudfoot pays all law costs, in addition to £1500.
